# Is the support working? See the evidence before the EHCP annual review.

Sendix reads the plan, reports and what staff know, and shows the evidence for and against each outcome. Staff give their view and choose what changes. You get a draft ready to share with everyone invited, at least two weeks before the meeting. The meeting talks it through. Afterwards the school sends the report with its recommendations.

For the wording in the plan itself, see the [EHCP review](https://sendix.ai/ehcp-review.md).

## Worked example (a fictional plan)

**Fictional EHCP, A.M., Year 5: outcome 1 of 5, review on 24 November.**

- **Outcome:** "By the end of Year 6, A.M. answers a why question about a story, on their own."
- **Delivery:** 11 of 12 story sessions recorded this term.
- **For:** answers with a picture (speech and language report); on their own with a familiar story (what staff noticed); asks why at home, with books they know (parent views).
- **Against:** no change since June (class tracking, October).
- **A.M.'s view:** likes the stories with pictures best.
- **Is the support working?** Suggested from the evidence: partly working. Staff decide, and say why: "Answers with a picture, not yet without one."
- **Suggested change:** "By the end of Year 6, A.M. will answer a why question about a new story, without a picture, in four out of five story sessions, up from none this term." Staff keep, edit or reject it.
- **Drafted provision:** "Teaching assistant fades picture cues at story time", with how often left as a gap, to agree with the speech and language therapist.
- **Preparation draft:** the views, the outcome, the evidence and what comes next, checked by staff and ready to share with everyone invited, at least two weeks before the meeting. The meeting talks it through. Afterwards the school sends the report with its recommendations.

## How does a review come together?

One fictional child, from the first report to a draft ready to share with everyone invited, at least two weeks before the meeting. For EHCPs in England.

- **Every review in one place.** See who's next, which reports and views are in, and what each review still needs.
- **The evidence for and against each outcome.** AI reads the plan, reports and what staff know, and sets out what bears on each outcome, for it and against it, with the source beside every line.
- **Your view on whether the support is working.** Sendix suggests a status from the evidence: working, partly working, not working, not enough evidence yet or achieved. The delivery record sits beside it, so you can see whether the support happened. Staff read the evidence, give their view and say why.
- **Suggested changes, each with its source.** Where the evidence points to a change, Sendix suggests the next outcome, the provision and the next check. You keep, edit or reject each one.
- **A draft ready to share.** The child's views come first, then parent views, then each outcome with its evidence and what comes next, in your school's own review template. It's ready to share with everyone invited, at least two weeks before the meeting.

## What does a review have to do?

The SEND Code sets the shape of an annual review in a school. Sendix helps staff prepare for it. The meeting, the report and the council's decision stay where the Code puts them.

- Law: [Children and Families Act 2014, section 44(1)](https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2014/6/section/44). The local authority must review the plan within 12 months of making it, and then within 12 months of each review.
- Statutory guidance: [SEND Code of Practice 2015, paragraph 9.166](https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/5a7dcb85ed915d2ac884d995/SEND_Code_of_Practice_January_2015.pdf). Reviews must focus on the child or young person's progress towards achieving the outcomes in the plan, and must also consider whether those outcomes and supporting targets remain appropriate.
- Statutory guidance: [SEND Code of Practice 2015, paragraph 9.168](https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/5a7dcb85ed915d2ac884d995/SEND_Code_of_Practice_January_2015.pdf). Reviews must be undertaken in partnership with the child and their parent, or the young person, and must take account of their views, wishes and feelings.
- Statutory guidance: [SEND Code of Practice 2015, paragraph 9.176](https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/5a7dcb85ed915d2ac884d995/SEND_Code_of_Practice_January_2015.pdf). The school must seek advice and information before the meeting from everyone invited, and send what it gathers to all of them at least two weeks before the meeting.
- Statutory guidance: [SEND Code of Practice 2015, paragraph 9.176](https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/5a7dcb85ed915d2ac884d995/SEND_Code_of_Practice_January_2015.pdf). The meeting must focus on progress towards the outcomes, on what changes might need to be made to the support, and on whether the outcomes themselves need to change.

## What happens at the meeting?

- **The meeting talks it through.** Your draft is preparation. The meeting talks it through. Afterwards the school sends the report with its recommendations.
- **The school reports within two weeks.** The report of the meeting goes to everyone invited and sets out recommendations on any amendments to the EHCP (SEND Code of Practice, paragraph 9.176).
- **The council decides within four weeks.** The local authority decides whether to keep, amend or cease the plan, and tells the family and the school (SEND Code of Practice, paragraph 9.176). Until the council amends it, staff keep delivering the provision as written.
