# Check Child's Plan actions say who, what and by when.

Sendix flags Child's Plan wording that doesn't yet say who provides support, what will happen, how often or what should improve. It cites the GIRFEC guidance behind each flag and asks the questions that close the gap. A practitioner writes the wording.

## Worked example (a fictional plan)

**Fictional Child's Plan, Mia, P4.**

- **Wellbeing need:** "Mia finds reading aloud stressful and avoids it. Her class teacher and family have noticed she is withdrawn on days with group reading."
- **Action, as written:** "Mia will get support with her reading as needed." Finding: the action isn't specific yet. "Support … as needed" doesn't say what will be done, how often, or when it starts.
- **Responsible service, as written:** "School". Finding: responsibility for this action is unclear. "School" names a setting, not the person or service who carries out the action.
- **Outcome, as written:** "Mia will feel more confident with reading." Review date: "Next term". Finding: the expected improvement is hard to review. "Feel more confident" has no sign the review could look for, and "next term" doesn't set a date. Worth clarifying with Mia and her family.
- **What you take to the review:** the flagged fields, what each is missing and the guidance behind it. A practitioner writes the wording in the school's usual template.

## What does Sendix check in a Child's Plan?

Each field is checked for what the GIRFEC guidance expects a plan to make clear:

- **The action.** What will be done, how often, and when it starts, rather than "support as needed".
- **Who is responsible.** Which person or service provides the support, and who is accountable for it, rather than a setting such as "School".
- **The expected improvement.** What should be different for the child, in a form the review can look for, rather than "feel more confident".
- **The review.** When the plan will be reviewed, as a date rather than "next term".

## What is each flag based on?

A Child's Plan is non-statutory, so these flags rest on the Scottish Government's GIRFEC guidance: practice guidance, not statute.

- Practice guidance (not statute): [GIRFEC child's plan practice statement (Scottish Government, 2023), section 2](https://www.gov.scot/publications/getting-right-child-girfec-practice-statement-girfec-childs-plan/pages/3/). The plan should be clear on which services or people will provide support, who is accountable for that support, and the way in which that support will be provided; it should include the personalised actions to be taken and the expected improvement for the child.
- Practice guidance (not statute): [GIRFEC Practice Guidance 1: Using the National Practice Model (2022), section 11](https://www.gov.scot/publications/getting-right-child-girfec-practice-guidance-1-using-national-practice-model/pages/11/). Every plan should include and record details of action to be taken, resources to be provided, timescales for action and for change, contingency plans and arrangements for reviewing the plan.
- Practice guidance (not statute): [GIRFEC child's plan practice statement (Scottish Government, 2023), section 2](https://www.gov.scot/publications/getting-right-child-girfec-practice-statement-girfec-childs-plan/pages/3/). A child's plan within GIRFEC is a non-statutory plan, and it should reflect the voice of the child or young person at every stage.

## Who writes the wording?

- **A practitioner does.** A Child's Plan is agreed with the child, their family and the professionals involved, so Sendix points at each gap and asks what would close it. The practitioner who knows the child writes the words.
- **In your own template.** You update the plan as you always do. Sendix doesn't connect to SEEMiS or other school management systems; it holds only the plans you choose to upload.
- **With the child's voice in it.** Where the outcome is unclear, the flag suggests clarifying it with the child and family, because the plan should reflect the child's voice at every stage.
